Focus on employee well-being, increased investments in production facilities and renewable energy to reduce atmospheric emissions, enhanced support for local community associations, growth in research and development activities, and new corporate certifications and recognitions—this is the snapshot of Esseco Srl’s economic, environmental, and social sustainability efforts presented in its Second Sustainability Report. The company specializes in sulfur-based products and services for the inorganic chemical and enological industries, operating two production plants in San Martino di Trecate (Novara) and San Cipriano Po (Pavia). With revenues approaching €180 million, the company is part of Esseco Industrial, the industrial division of the family-owned Esseco Group, which operates in 18 countries worldwide.
“In the face of the general climate of uncertainty that characterized 2023, with its inevitable economic repercussions,” stated Giuseppe Falsiroli, CEO of Esseco Srl, “we maintained salary policies above the national collective agreement while simultaneously increasing investments dedicated to the local community.”
Overall, the company has supported a variety of initiatives rooted in the province of Novara through donations. These include Agil Volley and Polisportiva San Giacomo in sports, Fondazione Teatro Coccia and the Castello di Novara for cultural and artistic initiatives, and Fondazione Comunità Novarese Onlus and Fondazione ‘I Bambini delle Fate’ for social and welfare projects.
“The Platinum Medal awarded by Ecovadis to the Trecate site, a recognition earned by only 1% of evaluated companies, reflects our strong commitment to environmental responsibility, complemented by the Gold Medal earned by our San Cipriano Po facility,” continued Falsiroli. “Additionally, we engaged with Open-Es, an ESG rating platform, achieving a score of 88 out of 100. Our dedication to ethics and transparency in business operations also earned us the highest score in the Legality Rating from the Italian Competition Authority.”
Leveraging the sulfur used in its industrial processes, Esseco self-generates approximately two-thirds of the electricity it consumes. This is further supplemented by investments in photovoltaic plants in Sicily through the Renewability project, which adds more green energy to the mix. Research activities funded by the Ministry of Enterprises on wine fermentation and protein stabilization projects have been completed. Furthermore, the company participated in the SWIch call for proposals from the Piedmont Region with the “ECOChem Innovations” project, which was approved and launched in recent months.
To make the San Martino di Trecate plant a place conducive to adopting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging organizational and behavioral changes, Esseco has joined the WHP (Workplace Health Promotion) program promoted by the Region in collaboration with Spresal of ASL Novara.
“Achieving several medium- and long-term targets makes us proud and is a testament to the dedication of all our employees,” concluded CEO Giuseppe Falsiroli. “This motivates us to keep improving. From water conservation to material traceability and emissions reduction, these are results we will continue to pursue in synergy with local institutions.”
