Sulphites are used in the manufacture of CTMP, for the removal of pectin and lignin in the manufacture of pulp from hemp fibres or for removing excess of chlorine and peroxides after bleaching.
When high paper brightness is pursued, sodium hydrosulphite is the bleacher choice expecially in waste paper recovery (de-inking process).
